Over the past three months I have been producing my first big photo shoot in a small town in West Texas named Marfa. Marfa is famous for many reasons but notably for it’s artistic ‘New York chic’ meets cowboy boots art scene that has been written up all over the world.
Back in 2005 two artists named Elmwood and Dragstreet came to Marfa to find the perfect location for their hyper-commercialism vision of a free standing Prada store in the middle of nowhere. The store was built about 35 minutes outside Marfa and a very exclusive Fall 2005 line of Prada purses and shoes were purchased to be placed in the installation. The door was sealed after the store was completed, never to be reopened as to allow the store to slowly deteriorate with time.
After shooting some images of the store back in May of 2009, I knew I had to return. Coming up with different concepts to photograph was easy but I never thought some of them possible. This past weekend was nothing short of an exhilarating ride to see the wild ideas in my head come to life. Using a mule named ‘Chula’, a wonderful model from Dallas, as well as many other props and equipment, I was able to achieve the images below.
Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts – I hope you enjoy these as much as I have creating them.

fantastic, looks like years of work all in one weekend. Hard to pick a favorite!
Love love this. It is so out of place, but in the same hand, in the perfect place being set up outside Marfa. Your photography of the place is brillant!!!
