Yesterday at 5PM my doorbell rang and I found a package from DHL that had been overnighted from Hong Kong.
About 3 weeks ago I was contacted by the Photo Editor of China’s most influential Men’s Magazine, ElleMen. The translation of our email conversation was a bit hazy but I understood they were interested in running a piece on my photography and they needed the images as soon as possible.
I ripped the package open to find 3 copies of a gorgeous 352 page issue featuring American actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the cover. As I flipped from page to page slowly looking for my piece, I couldn’t get over the incredibly quality of the magazine– even nicer than our American equivalent of GQ.
After about 5 minutes I began to worry as I was on page 300 and still no sign of the article; I feared that it didn’t make it to press. Suddenly a thought came over me- what if they gave me the last page? Before I could even process the thought, my fingers released the final 50 pages and there on the inside of the back cover was the article!
Words cannot describe the feeling of seeing your work in such a top-tier publication. Even though it’s in Chinese and it is not my home country, I couldn’t be more proud to have created work that will be viewed by millions in China as the last thing they read before finishing the October issue of ElleMen.
Here are some pictures of the dreamy day for Maison Gray! xo
