Today’s post is a special one for me to share.
When I was in middle school back in Dallas, Texas I was not exactly the coolest kid in the class. I was really into music and specifically a certain band named No Doubt. I would spend hours in my room listening to their album Tragic Kingdom, reading the pamphlet inside the CD case cover to cover, and learning all the lyrics to every song. I vividly remember my sister and I bouncing on the trampoline while blasting Spider Webs and pretending to be on the phone screaming the words to the song as loud as we could. Soon I convinced my mom to let me go to my first concert to see them and I still remember jumping around on the lawn of the venue to I’m Just a Girl.
Fast forward 13 years.
I took out a booth at the Beverly Hills Art Show and sold a piece to a cute gal named Erin and her mom. Little did I know she was married to one of the band members of No Doubt. A year or so later (via Twitter of all things) we reconnected and she and her friend Miekee asked if they could come by my studio in West Hollywood.
Turns out Miekee is married to another member of the band and they have a son named Rio so the Rio de Janiero print was the perfect fit for their home here in Southern California.
The girls were so much fun the day they came to visit me in the studio I even snapped a shot on my imac photobooth:
After they bought the print we stayed in touch via Twitter/Instagram (they run a joint twitter which is amazing @thingsweheart) and one day I discovered via a picture they were married to two of the band members of No Doubt: Tom Dumont & Tony Kanal! Of course, I had to email them and tell them I was a big fan
I would have never thought in a million years that one day I would have a talent that would connect me to my childhood idols. If someone had told me that in 8th grade when I went to see them play I would have died!
Thanks to Erin and Miekee, we were invited to the No Doubt concert on Wednesday night and even had a little VIP access. However, the highlight of the night was that the image that hangs in Tom & Miekee’s house appeared up on the big screen behind the stage during one of the songs – it made my heart melt.
Dream big everyone – you never know where your life may take you!
